I have to say that I prefer my captions unbowdlerised.

You've got an excellent crop there, EE. I've got too many favourites to list them.

I edited nothing. If it had needed editing I'd have been more likely to choose one of the other captions than bother cleaning this one up.

Do we need Mrs. V, or is NaNoWriMo familiar to all minions?

I really like the last cartoon and advert.

I got this one, Buffy.

In November it's National Novel Writing Month (or something along those lines) where the challenge is to write a novel start to finish in one month. There are various contests that correspond to it. Thus the joke is EE gets tons of crap submissions from people who write a novel in one month.

NAtional NOvel WRIting MOnth.

It's a writing challenge in november: write a 50k novel in a month.

NaNoWriMo is the National Novel Writing Month. Happens every year in November. It is responsible for my current angst, as I am in the second draft of my first NaNoWriMo novel. I hope to have it finished before my 70th birthday.

But of course I plan to participate this year again. Call me a glutton for punishment.

NaNoWriMo is so much fun...I've met most if not all of my writing and crit buddies through it, either directly or by association. And it's a great way to get a quick first draft out. I find it very useful to write that fast--the whole novel stays in the same voice, the same tone.

Which is not to say that it doesn't need massive editing in December and well beyond!! I've done NaNo twice. My 2006 novel is pretty well polished by now (two crit groups, three rewrites); my 2007 is still in the disastrous-mess-but-has-potential stage.

We all shake our heads at people who send out their novels on December 1. Gives the whole exercise a bad name, frankly.

Buffy! You obviously haven't looked at the next cartoon! :-)

Thanks, EE and caption people - these are making my dreary day a little less dreary. :-)

NaNoWriMo is something of a Rite of Passage, along with bailing friends out of jail & fielding calls from drunks screaming "I Love YOU!" into the phone at 3AM.

Kiersten White said...

Ah man, Kazar-Khum, apparently I'm not getting passage anywhere...

talpianna said...

Kiersten, you are experiencing the Wrongs of Passage, alas!

I've done NaNoWriMo twice now. The first time around I found it really built up my writing chops--getting me thinking in longer arcs, etc.

The second time around, it was not so much fun. I felt like I sacrificed a lot of quality to make deadline. Then again, there is a lesson in this too.

Huh, I never did any of that. Maybe that's why my writing refuses to shape up...

Bonfire season. --anon

Enough raking through the slushpile. I need to find me a hoe. --anon.

Well, that's the editing done. Now to get 'em off to the publishers. --anon.

Man, if only I'd had shoes like this when I was younger. --anon.

Now, let's see what landed in the "yes" pile. Ooh, nothing again. Guess it's cocktail time.--?

"Bloody fan mail." --Ulysses

"Another day filing queries."--Ulysses

Well the kids love to jump into 'em; what can you do? --anon.

I wonder if I can just push them over onto my neighbor's lawn...? --anon.

It would be hilarious if I left this rake on the floor and somebody stood on it and smashed themselves in the face. But this is not that kind of cartoon.
Mrs V. Explains...Huh? --anon.

"I wonder if I can convince authors that raking their own manuscripts into the furnace is good for their careers." --Pacatrue
