Q & A 31 Do you want our books, EE?

In doing these queries, have you come across any that have made you request to see the work? I realize we mostly see the really bad ones but surely there are good ones too (one would hope, anyway!) I don't want to know who or what book, just wondering if it's helped you find anything you're truly interested in while doing this.

First of all, Evil Editor does not limit his critiques to the "really bad ones." He's happy to tear down even the better queries, if it gets a laugh from his Minions.

If Evil Editor actually requested a manuscript, he would have to tell the writer where to send it. His identity might be guessed, word would get out, and he would start receiving queries from everyone he's critiqued. The queries now being brilliant, he'd have to request all the manuscripts. He might even have to read some of them. His workload would become so heavy, he'd have to give up blogging. Is that what you want?

Just make them sign a confidentiality agreement and send some hired goons to their door if they violate it.

Don't you have a slew of agents who send you all the great stuff anyway? Don't the agents do the dirty *fun* work?

Agents? Don't make me laugh. Is there an agent left out there who isn't blogging 18 hours a day?

The way I figure it, if an author is good enough, Evil Editor will look at that person's manuscript. That person will just never know it was him.

Hey EE, this is way off-topic for the post, but I was just wondering if you liked Misery because you enjoy the plot or simply because it's about an author being tortured...?

Neither. Evil Editor has had a thing for Kathy Bates ever since the eggbeater incident at our high school prom.

Damn, and I had sooooo much hope that EE's curiosity would be satisfied.

Hmm, let's see.... a requested manuscript or no more EE blog.... That's a tough one.

So, tony soprano, we're advocating PublishAmerica-style techniques now?

EE, please don't seriously consider that suggestion. You're a better man than that. :P

I'm wondering if any of Evil's authors have put two and two together yet? Or has he done such a fine job of disguising his true voice that he's managed to hide his identity from those who know him best.

Ooh, eggbeater incident. Tell me more...

So YOU are Miss Snark!

I just had a frightening visual: EE and Miss Snark's offspring.
