Here's how Evil Editor's first contest works. Beginning Thursday, the titles of actual books whose query letters were submitted to Evil Editor, along with a number of possible descriptions of those books (one of which will be the correct description, and the others of which were submitted earlier today by the evil minions) will be offered for your examination. Your goal: to choose the description that goes with the title. It's like the board game Balderdash, or the party game Dictionary, only with book titles. You do not have to have submitted a query letter or descriptions to participate.

Twenty five words for each? Bah, I can do twenty five words for all of them. :)
"While writing The Midnight Diaries, Little Girl Blue opens a Portal to Murder in order to Raise the Buried Dead, ultimately finding The Monster Within."
Should these sound like the back of a book, or be more of a thick-and-dry description?
-A
Anything's fine. They won't all be used anyway.
Does this also mean the queries not included in the contest are out of the running for you to look at and help revise?
M
No. Actually, they're the only ones in the running until the contest ends; otherwise I'd be giving away the answers.
Titles are something I've always struggled with--and it sounds like I'm not alone:-) Thanks for a fun contest, I can't wait to see the results!
I'm not sure how it works. Are you holding on to the entries and not showing them in the comments until the end?
Where exactly are we to post our entries? Right here, in this comment-thing?
Entries are posted in comments. Evil Editor rejects those comments that include entries, so they are not seen.
Consider your query unqueued, Ms Espinoza. Hmm. Amazingly, "unqueued" is what they want me to type for my word verification.
When does the contest end? As soon as you list all the groups as closed?
Jess
(who must post anonymously since she has no blog. Aside: Can't you check IP's anyway for double-submitting?)
Did I miss my public flogging or is it just a brutal coincidence that rei sites The Monster Within?
You missed the preparations for the contest, in which several of the minions will let you know what your novel should have been about. Stay tuned.
Could this contest also be construed as a "Titles That Need Work" lesson? Either way, it's still pretty cool.
