Correction

I've placed a piece of clip-art on New Beginning 115. (Not 15, as reported earlier) Which you should be able to reach without going into the archives. It would be possible to put drawings like this throughout our book, but printing with color ups the price. Is it worth it? Would most people be just as happy with text only?

Colour seems a little extravagent. From my limited experience, this type of book usually works just fine with monochrome line-art. The $10/$15 value prop. would probably be driven more by the amount of content.

How much would it be for B&W but throw in a pack of Crayolas? (I only have green ones myself).

I don't know, EE. This is part vanity, part humor. Your guess is as good as mine.

What about a color_in{g} book? ;)

I like line art.

I haven't looked at the clipart you added to #15.

Would certainly be happy text-only, but I'm not yet a confirmed purchaser in my own mind.

Um...I don't see any clip art on New Beginning 15...

Pure and simple works for me. If you could get an illustrator to work with you and create tailored images, then that would be a good thing. Clip art...not so much.

So we're going to cull through all the New Beginnings to find it, right? (says one of your busier, got limited time for this minions)

Okay, let me look.

Okay, I went back and back--to NB 15--no clip art. Um?

I like clip art generally and like color and think it would make a book more fun. Not sure if color is worth $5 better, especially since I can't see the proposed clip art. But I like what you generally use. So I think it should be a yes.

I like the picture on 115.

I love the clip on 115, but I think we should opt for B&W instead of color, so line art's the way to go.

OK, much easier to find.

Having seen it, my answer would be a definite no. There are many hazards with clip art. Clip art has a bad reputation amongst designers and would rarely be found in a professional project (I assume that we are being kind of professional here). The need to use mixed styles to find enough images that will work with the different topics is an issue - not to mention the hours of precious Evil Editor time required to source the pictures.

The biggest problem for me is that so much clip art is completely banal. I just don't think that it would sit well with what is not a banal project. What you are doing is quirky, creative and fun - clip art is not. It has the wrong associations for Evil Editor.

So that would be a no from me.

I like the clip art. I think the colour jazzes it up and adds another little notch of entertainment value.

I love your clip-art. Keep it coming.

Have some minions who are somewhat adept at drawing send in a sample jpeg and choose a style to go with, then assign ten or fifteen drawings to go with selected openings. On a volunteer basis, of course. My hand is up, see?

I like pictures and color - but you're the boss on this one...

I think the clip art adds something positive, but either way works for me. -JTC

Chumplet's got a great suggestion. Provided you make it clear that you have final say and can choose none of the volunteers if you don't like the proposals.

Text only or clip art - I could care less.

Just make sure everything is legible, with no typos...

Personally, I imagine this as being more of a pocket book, light to read, somewhat educational, mostly funny, as bite-sized as its content. I don't think clip art would contribute much. Bi-colour fonting, however, is a must. I wouldn't go to the store specifically to pick this up, but grab it while buying something else... something to eat the change on a $40 purchase, for example, or to add to the amazon cart so I'm eligible for free shipping. $10-or-less is good incentive. Well, $9.98, since I've already given you these two cents.
