The New York Times has a nice article about the change in the plots of novels that are mostly light summer reading. I think that it says that there is less and less fashion and traces the height from "The Devil Wear Prada" down to the current summer offerings.
It's on their book page. You might have to register to read it, but the NYT's doesn't send email or anything like that.
