Writing Exercise
This exercise provides query-writing practice, and usually turns out amusing.
You'll need a random number between 1 and 504. You can get one here.
Use the search feature or the archives to find the Face-Lift that goes with your number. Now choose one of the fake plots and write a query letter. In the past I've had you choose your plot with a random number. If you're indecisive, you may do so again, but you are free to use any plot except the real one.
You have the option of doing just a synopsis of the book, or a complete query with credits and other incidentals. Either way, limit yourself to 250 words.
Use the same title the original query uses. Submit the Face-Lift number, the fake plot you used, and your query. Deadline: Sunday morning, 8 AM eastern. Include a name if you want credit. After we read your query, we'll let you know if we think you should write the book.

Oh, God, I've been reading and editing to the point that my eyes hurt, except for popping on here during the day to get some good grins.
And I just got another one. I just got my Face-Lift from the random picker thingie, and went to check on a possible query topic target.
This will be the first non-fiction query I've done. Care to guess the topic? I still can't quite believe my luck. Good Lord.
If your eyes hurt that much, you should take a break.
There's bound to be a kids' fancy dress birthday party happ'nin in the neighbourhood.
Throw on a dark blanket and gatecrash as Darth Sidius...
Hi WO,
The gatecrash sounds good- but as it happens, my kid is OOT for spring break - so no kiddieland for me right now. Evenif I could scare the crap out of a few of 'em, I'm steering clear, baby.
But I am going out to dinner in about an hour - so that's a good thing. I plan on slogging it out some more afterwards. Gotta finish, know what I mean?
Oh, and by the way, on the undies re the opening, sorry about that. Heh!
Robin, did you get The Horizontal Life? I did.
Great picture, EE -- glad to see you've chosen to reveal your true identity...
What is EE doing with MY evil cats???
No, nothing horizontal in my title, (though the subject matter may well be pretty close).
Hmmm... I'm stuck at my parents' house for the holidays, so this will give me something to do. Thanks, EE... you really are the greatest.
Love you ;)
Dave -- are you posting anonymously again?
Hell iago,
You made me chortle all over again, but this time, it didn't seem to me like you did it in Stewie's voice. Which was a big relief.
Stupid Question: How do you submit the query to EE? I tried emailing him at the email address listed, and got a failure notice...
The email should work, but submitting as a comment to this post is fine.
Never mind: there are 2 different emails listed; apparently the one listed under "Contact" in the Blogger profile is incorrect?
How did THAT happen? Anyway, fixed.
