Success Story

John reports that his short story, "Whole Lada Love," tied for first place in the Foreign Service Journal's annual fiction contest. The FSJ is the magazine of the professional association of the U.S. foreign service.

Here's a link to the page where the story starts: Whole Lada Love. You can fiddle with the page number gizmo at the top to read to the end.

John's query for The Crane's Beak appeared here recently.

Congrats, John. Loved the title. Love the voice and style, laid back. I chuckled at the end. The Lada: what a chick magnet!

Thanks to all for the kind words.

Angie has it nailed about the Lada as a chick magnet. As a teenager, I fancied myself quite the stud tooling around in a pea-green Fiat 128, a frameless beer can of a car, shorter end to end than a VW Bug and very similar to the Fiat model from which the Lada was cloned. Now living in the former Soviet Union and seeing these cars all around, it's nostalgia city for me. This story was a labor of remembered teenage lust.
