Me, I'm making ads for people. Our next workshop will be on how to use Paint. If it was sitting on my computer it's probably sitting on everyone's. Except those who sprang for something better.
Oh. I see it now. I asked Accent Man where it was. I went in and found it in Accessories.
If you guessed I've never used it before, you'd be right. A class sounds good. That or tell dummie like me you won't help us and to get over ourselves and learn. But I guess that's where the class comes in, huh?
On my computer I can click start in the lower left, then click all programs a the bottom. Then click accessories. See if it's on the list. If not I'll try one more option.
The origami gifts for waiters sound so cute, Brenda! My girls used to do drawings on the paper napkins for waiters. I thought that was sweet- same kinda thing, you know.
I actually have something better, EE, and I haven't been able to figure out how to take bits of one photo and put it into another! (Call me an idiot, I'll agree.) But unless I want to draw a lot of stuff longhand using my digital tablet, I have been stuck with one picture element.
So I hope I can participate in that workshop you are threatening.
Okay, Rob, look at the bottom of the picture. There should be a row of icons. The second from the right (on my screen, anyway) is a blue/green rectangle. Click it.
I have Corel Painter and couldn't get it to work that way. I just figured it out using Paint, as you say. Should have tried that before, then I can clean it up with the tablet.
I hope we do these ads again, because I can do some fun stuff with the art tablet. Monster effects. It's the layering of the damn photos that's been the problem. (I'll figure it out eventually.)
2. But suppose you want to paint something the exact color something else on your screen is. Click on the eyedropper tool, then point the eyedropper at whatever is the color you want. Voila. You're now painting in that color.
To paint, click on the paintbrush. At the bottom of the toolbox you'll see a few options for width of brushstroke. Now you can paint on top of your photo.
Ooh, a party! Not crashing it. Just want to point out to EE that Brenda Bradshaw has a new avatar. If you haven't seen it 'cause you're looking at comments through your email, you should check it out. (Robin, don't be jealous.)
To paint in a straight line, click on the line. It'll give you several option of line width. To draw a rectangle or circle around something, it's the obvious figures.
Oh, I know. I was being smart. I have a friend who's an art director for a gaming company. He keeps telling me to get a job writing for a game company.
Over 40? Wow! I'd post a few a day. Maybe 8 or so per day. We can't read and comment on that many at one sitting. And that will give you a breather between, too. You can hold off on mine if you need to.
Top right column of the tools, the dotted square. Click it. Then move the cursor to one corner of your head. Hold it down and move to the diagonal corner. This forms a square around your head. Release the mouse button. You can move that square around.
phoenix has a point- part of the fun is commenting- if there are a boatload- it's too hard to do.
I think it's the same thing when you have a large amount of writing exercise submissions, honestly. I think stretching those through the week, if it's not too instrusive on your other plans for the blog for the week, would be good. It gives people time to comment.
Yanno, ril, even though you don't want the fame of being credited for captions, don't you feel guilty denying people the opportunity to thank you for bringing laughter into their lives?
Funny, I'd never thought of it that way. I figured so long as I know they're laughing at some of them, that's enough thanks for me... Do you really think it bothers people if they don't know who did the caption or whatever?
I wans't in the bathroom- I put my husband to bed, ran my daughter's kitten, laptop and cell phone charger down to her at her friend's house - and fed my old cat. And poured another wine.
Ril - i'd rather know when it's you, sweetie. Really. You're a legend here - and we're proud of you.
Why DO you contribute anonymously, Ril? do you have certain criteria? "Hmm, I give this one a grade of 86 and I only put my 'name' on ones that grade out at 90. Another Anon submission." How do you decide?
You should at least take credit for cartoon 100. I'm trying to decide between the puppets and the trap door in the desk. May I assume you are responsible for both?
I do love it when people like what I do, though, and thank you all for the nice comments. I'm definitely not ungrateful and don't want to appear arrogant.
You should at least take credit for cartoon 100. I'm trying to decide between the puppets and the trap door in the desk. May I assume you are responsible for both?
Well, assuming you only got one submission for each, probably yes. If you got more, I'm not sure.
I think I have that market cornered. You're safe. However, I do wish you would use your name. It just endears you to us more. Unless you don't like to be endearing.
Once you set up the site, you just have to log in and use the portal info and password if you have one. Then just have a headset. I normally run sound through my speakers and I disable my mike anyway most of the time.
We'll just all get together at my place. Then we'll know what we sound like.
Well I call the chair in the corner. The one with the worn arms that the weredingo usually sits on, underneath that portrait of Lincoln you bought at the antique store last July.
Robin, it was for the EE charity auction exercise; I just picked names at random from comments, and for some reason someone had said "The Robins" so I thought there was more than one.

It's Brit boy's birthday today, but he has a stomach virus - and he's out for the count on the couch. Watching a movie. Sideways, it's called.
Yeah. No dinner out in DC. No tapas.
Anything going on here tonight?
Me, I'm making ads for people. Our next workshop will be on how to use Paint. If it was sitting on my computer it's probably sitting on everyone's. Except those who sprang for something better.
How do I know if I have that?
Where do I look?
Poor Brit boy. And poor Robin.
My daughter does origami - and leaves tips for waiters in neat little characters. It's cool.
Oh. I see it now. I asked Accent Man where it was. I went in and found it in Accessories.

Hi Kiersten and Brenda,
Do you guys knowhow to use Paint?
The origami gifts for waiters sound so cute, Brenda! My girls used to do drawings on the paper napkins for waiters. I thought that was sweet- same kinda thing, you know.
I'm watching you on TV now, EE. Indiana Jones.
Was it there?
Uh Oh, EE. We're having blogger issues again.I sent you a note saying I found it.
What should I do with it? Are you gonna wait until we have the class?
Let's see if it kicks in automatically. Go to where you store your photos and bring one up.
Stay in cartoon 99, I'm turning off comment moderation.
If you've brought up a picture, does it say window picture and fax viewer at the top?
I store my photos in My Pictures.
So I'll go there now.
Yeah- it does.
WW, in paint you click on edit, then on paste from to insert one picture over another.
Google PhotoFiltre Free upload
and you'll get a really good photo programmall in size and very handy.
Okay, Rob, look at the bottom of the picture. There should be a row of icons. The second from the right (on my screen, anyway) is a blue/green rectangle. Click it.

Scott- where do you get it?Do you just enter that titlein Google search?
EE- now that I have a picture up- what now? bearing in mind I am an admitted incompetent in these things, but wanting to learn.
http://www.techspot.com/downloads/3822-photofiltre-studio.html
Here is one description/site
Wow. I'm in Paint!
Did you find the icon at the bottom of the picture?
Okay, you should see a tool box on the left side.
Thanks, Scott. I better learn Paint first though.
Here's the thing. I'm so retor i'm going backwards when it comes to technology.
I just learned how to italicize stuff on blog comments a few months ago. It was a bitch to figure out.
So...
I think it is easier and better than paint
Do you have the various sybols on the left side of the picture?
Yep- I see them.
This is going too slow. Do you have the toolbox symbols on the left of the photo?
Yes.
Okay, here's what they do.
1. Note that there's a bunch of colors at the bottom. Click on one and that's the color you'll be painting with.
Got it.
Wow. What a Saturday night! Too bad I don't need a paint tutorial.
2. But suppose you want to paint something the exact color something else on your screen is. Click on the eyedropper tool, then point the eyedropper at whatever is the color you want. Voila. You're now painting in that color.
Gah, I'm being forced to be competent?
Good Lord. HOld on. Let me go look.
My youngest son does origami also, it's cool.
Then again, maybe I do. I had no idea what the eyedropper was for. Dangit! Another thing Robin will be better at than me...
Hey- I did it! Now what do i paint with it.
OK- Julie- you gotta do it too, girl.
The eyedropper lets you match skin color when you put ee's head on someone else's body.
OK- wait, please, EE. I have to go do that part now. Be right back...
If you want to drive yourself nuts, you can enlarge the picture so it's pixellated and paint edges more accurately.
Well, I now have to go. Old Cat has had diarrhea all over the down comforter. Eck.
PS - If EE notices a new avatar, i'm gonna put a picture up on here that he might well wish he had never seen.
Just sayin'.
Now I have work to do, people...
To paint in a straight line, click on the line. It'll give you several option of line width. To draw a rectangle or circle around something, it's the obvious figures.
Ok- I clicked the brush- I took hair color that I picked using the eyedropper dealie - and I paintbrushed some background.
sigh, let me find a picture. I just barely figured out how to scan.
We can do a workshop that's announced at a future time if you prefer to just chat tonight.
What if you're me, and you've already pianted a big mess on your head? How do I erase the mess and try the straight lines?
be right back.
You can eliminate the last three things you did by clicking edit and then undo.
Ok, let me read back through this and catch up.
There's also an eraser if that helps, but it turns everything it touches white. It's the second tool down in the left column.
OK- I just tried that and it worked. Thanks!
How do you mix images? Like today- how did you take a picture and replace a head?
You put the two pics in paint somehow, right?
If you've made a big mess and want to start over, try to close the photo. It will ask if you want to save the changes. Say no.
OK.
Okay, click edit at the top, then click paste from.
OK- let me do that...
It'll show you the other picture you have in that file. Double click one. You may have to resize it, as it's likely to be too big.
OK- it took me to My Pictures. Want me to choose another picture and click on it?
I just did it- Allie's picture is now sitting on top of mine. they're the same size.
Yes. That should bring it on top of the original picture.
You have to make hers smaller. And you have to do it while the dotted lines are surrounding hers.
Can you see both your heads?
When I move it around, it stays the same size - just some of it moves out of frame.
Right click on her photo. Click stretch/skew. change the 100s to 50.
I can see both heads if i move the top head around, but I don't know how to make it smaller. The top one.
So, if we get really good at this we can stop writing and become artists?
yes.
There's big money in art, just like writing.
Oh. Wow. I did it.
I have more than 40 ads to post. Should I post them all? Or save some for other days?
Now you want to put your head on her body, right?
Oh, I know. I was being smart. I have a friend who's an art director for a gaming company. He keeps telling me to get a job writing for a game company.
40!!!??
I'd save some. How many did you have to do?
I'd save a few for when you don't have much time or things are slow. Then again, I love seeing the art.
Right...
Maybe 10.
Well, it's good not everyone is inept.
Over 40? Wow! I'd post a few a day. Maybe 8 or so per day. We can't read and comment on that many at one sitting. And that will give you a breather between, too. You can hold off on mine if you need to.
Semi-lurking. Reading other blogs in between :o)
Sorry. I won't ask for picture help again.
I promise.
Wow, the art stuff is more popular than the writing!
Top right column of the tools, the dotted square. Click it. Then move the cursor to one corner of your head. Hold it down and move to the diagonal corner. This forms a square around your head. Release the mouse button. You can move that square around.
I will, I'm not as nice as Robin.
phoenix has a point- part of the fun is commenting- if there are a boatload- it's too hard to do.
I think it's the same thing when you have a large amount of writing exercise submissions, honestly. I think stretching those through the week, if it's not too instrusive on your other plans for the blog for the week, would be good. It gives people time to comment.
Yours took ten minutes. Some people have very complicated requests.
I gotta go for 5 or 6 minutes- please don't go away!!!
I agree, I like to comment on the writing. Not sure I have much to add, but I at least like to weigh in.
Since this is one of the few blogs I have left I visit.
I could post a bunch over two days, and keep the very best ones for a daily ad feature. A cartoon and an ad every day.
Thank you, I'm glad it wasn't too much of a hassle.
That sounds good.
I like the idea of feeding some of them out daily.
We'll have to see what Robin thinks when she gets back from the bathroom,
ril, I like that avatar.
Thanks. It's a "found" picture. I just added the ND.
I've been thinking about finding a non-copyrighted picture of some of the old lady bronc riders. It's on my to do list.
*raises an eyebrow.
You should feel guilty. I like to thank people properly.
I don't know if it's THAT bothersome, but there've been occasional comments to that effect.
Anons make me nervous.
ril, I just enjoy knowing who is behind the wit.
Yes. What are they hiding?
Hey - great - you guys are still here!
I can usually tell a ril caption or continuation.
Hmm. Thinks...
I like the idea of spreading them out, too.
And Ril, you should take credit where credit is due.
Hey, Robin. How is DH?
Especially since you're not getting credit for too many continuations lately.
Welcome back, Kiersten.
EE, you can tell because of what you do.
I need to finish the continuations I haven't done yet.
So, tonight my husband asked, "Do you know who that guy [EE] is?" And I told him, "Of course, but I can't let Robin know"
I mean, "No, no one knows."
It's gonna look a little weird when this cartoon has 200 comments.
Yeah, I guess I'm missing the mark more recently. Seems to go peaks and troughs, though I've had a couple of recent ones...
Hey-
I wans't in the bathroom- I put my husband to bed, ran my daughter's kitten, laptop and cell phone charger down to her at her friend's house - and fed my old cat. And poured another wine.
Ril - i'd rather know when it's you, sweetie. Really. You're a legend here - and we're proud of you.
I'm not very good at continuations.
How's Brit boy doing, Robin? Lame birthday. At least he has a sexy accent.
Man, I'm getting a lot of blogger errors today...
I was wondering when it popped up with 35.
Oh, that's where you were. Well, I still hope you washed your hands and put the lid down.
EE- please levae the comments up sometimes. It's fun to read through them.
Also -i'm gonna need to reread the paint stuff, you know.
Britboy feels crummy, Julie. And being a guy, he's making that quite plain.
You know, if you'd sprung the extra for a homing kitten, you could have duct-taped that other stuff to its back and sent it out on its own.
It's gonna look a little weird when this cartoon has 200 comments.~
Yep, I just popped on to look at doing another continuation during a break and noticed 30 comments. Piqued my cat-like interest.
Britboy feels crummy, Julie. And being a guy, he's making that quite plain.~
My guys are the opposite, drives me insane.
And that, Ril, is why your continuations and captions are the best.
I'm not very good at continuations.~
I'm not either Kiersten, but I like to feel like I'm contributing.
Oh, that's where you were. Well, I still hope you washed your hands and put the lid down.~
*laughs*
I've tried a couple, but haven't hit my stride yet. I like doing GTPs though.
Ha! i agree with Kiersten- you're a scream.
Complete with imaginary sexy accent. Except i think you're a kid. But there you go.
EE, do you have one of those droll, Northern, educated accents, sweetie?
That's how I got sucked in, too, Julie. Oh look, comments went from 0 - 20 in no time. What's up? Don't look. Don't look. Don't -- Oh, look!
Ril, from comments on other blogs, others have had lots of Blogger issues, too.
It's a combination of northern southern and esperanto.
Phoenix, I want to thank you again for the help with that query.
esperanto?
I'm not a kid, just immature.
Gosh, Esperanto. I remember the whole Esperanto thing!
Ril, are you actually Japanese, or just living in Japan?
I always wanted to be Asian when I grew up. Nearly 25 and still white. Sigh...
It's funny to imagine what people sound like on here.
I'm British. I live in Japan.
Wow. That narrows it down.
I was wondering how to get voices on here - even in sound file things (yeah - like I know how...)
But you wouldn't do it, would you, EE?
Robin's got a sexy, charming Southern drawl thing going on, I'm sure...that's actually a fun combo with Brit boy...
Why DO you contribute anonymously, Ril? do you have certain criteria? "Hmm, I give this one a grade of 86 and I only put my 'name' on ones that grade out at 90. Another Anon submission." How do you decide?
Ah, so sexy accent and cool local. No wonder you're better than the rest of us.
Not immature, ril. Not boring. Big difference.
Gonna own up now?
Cherry blossoms?
Robin, we used Ventrillo when I was actually gaming. It's kind of fun. At least until you make a mistake and say outloud, "Who the heck is the voice?"
You're welcome, Julie. That's why we're all here. On a Saturday night. Well, Sunday afternoon (?) for some. Crazy addicted.
Me? I can put voices on the blog?
Yeah, Kiersten - I have a Kentucky accent, and Brit boy, well, he doesn't.
People say we don't sound like we belong together. Go figure.
I loved Cherry Blossoms. The new one EE posted is good also. Can't remember the title.
Yeah, "Cherry Blossoms" was me. The idea actually came to me when I was walking over the fallen petals down to my local subway station...
EE is ridiculously addicting. No wonder he doesn't tell us who he is.
Ventrillo?
EEEEEEEEEE??????!!
Can we can we-- huh huh???
I think southern and Irish would be a good couple. I'll supply the southern.
The idea actually came to me when I was walking over the fallen petals down to my local subway station...
And feeling like a king?
I knew that was you. Please start owning up.
That was beautiful. Novel or short story>
"Cherry Blossoms" was beautiful, Ril. That's why I didn't comment at all--nothing to add.
I love the idea of those two accents together, Robin.
Robin, you so funny.
And feeling like a king?
No, that's just the MC's perspective.
I don't even know what you're talking about.
She's talking about talking--putting your voice on the blog.
Short story.
But this thread really isn't about me...
EE? Voices?
What do you think?
Thanks,Julie, you flower petal, you!
I despise the sound of my voice so I seldom talked on vent.
You should at least take credit for cartoon 100. I'm trying to decide between the puppets and the trap door in the desk. May I assume you are responsible for both?
Obviously EE didn't find it as memorable as the rest of us ;o) Never you worry, Ril, dear. The ladies are here for you.
Welcome, Robin. Yes, glad you remembered, I am delicate, like a flower.
I do love it when people like what I do, though, and thank you all for the nice comments. I'm definitely not ungrateful and don't want to appear arrogant.
Never you worry, Ril, dear. The ladies are here for you.~
Indeed we are.
I wonder what the ratio of women to men is for minions?
You should at least take credit for cartoon 100. I'm trying to decide between the puppets and the trap door in the desk. May I assume you are responsible for both?
Well, assuming you only got one submission for each, probably yes. If you got more, I'm not sure.
don't want to appear arrogant.~
I think I have that market cornered. You're safe. However, I do wish you would use your name. It just endears you to us more. Unless you don't like to be endearing.
I wonder what the ratio of women to men is for minions?~
Interesting question.
How about going for endearingly arrogant?
I'd say the guys are sitting pretty, with EE at the way top of the heap. (Sorry ril, we love you, too, honey. You know that.)
I'd rather know it's you - so on cartoon 100- which ones are yours?
64/32/4
How about going for endearingly arrogant?
It's a reach, but maybe I could pull that off.
EE, about audio. Looks like you have to host it on another site and then link to it from the blog. Blogger doesn't support audio. Bummer.
I'm really curious about the 4.
How does one get minion status?
What's the 4 for?
I think I'm one of the four, 'cause everyone thought I was a woman. And that I write like a woman. All I can say is don't let these heels fool you.
We'll just all get together at my place. Then we'll know what we sound like.
Blogger supports video, and video doesn't have to have a moving picture...
I'm in. I need a vacation.
Once you set up the site, you just have to log in and use the portal info and password if you have one. Then just have a headset. I normally run sound through my speakers and I disable my mike anyway most of the time.
It's okay, Ril, I thought WW was a man and WO was a woman, and Robin was actually two people when I first started participating.
If I thought you meant that, I'd be ecstatic, EE.
Are you ever gonna? Even masked?
We'll just all get together at my place. Then we'll know what we sound like~
Robin will be right back, she's off making flight reservations.
We'll just all get together at my place. Then we'll know what we sound like.
Well I call the chair in the corner. The one with the worn arms that the weredingo usually sits on, underneath that portrait of Lincoln you bought at the antique store last July.
Ya'll can come to San Diego. It's nice here. And we all know what a fantastic beach body EE has.
All I can say is don't let these heels fool you.
snort
You thought I was two people, Kiersten?
Hmmmm. Was that about once a month you noticed me being super bitchy, by any chance? Brit boy tends to go on trips about then.
Maybe we will bump into each other at some conferences.
Hold on. ril, are you saying you know EE?
When I quit blogging I'll have my favorite minions over. Bring sleeping bags. And rat repellent.
underneath that portrait of Lincoln you bought at the antique store last July.~
You bought a portrait of Lincoln at an antique shop?
Well, as interesting as that would be, I would miss the blog.
Hold on. ril, are you saying you know EE?
Well, you can't just make stuff this up, can you?
Am I endearingly arrogant yet?
Let the Minion wars begin...
But that would mean you quit blogging, so I'd rather not.
Robin, it was for the EE charity auction exercise; I just picked names at random from comments, and for some reason someone had said "The Robins" so I thought there was more than one.
