The author of The Belly Dancer (Face-Lift 194) reports that the novel has been sold to Berkley. She credits EE and his minions for helping her land an agent and sale.

  1. Woo-hoo! Would love to know who DMG is. This was before my time, so I need some clues, please. How can we pre-order when we don't know who the author is? And are they including EE on their acknowledgements page? ;o)

    Details, author, details!!!

  2. Congratulations and let us know when the book comes out. I might not read it, but I can give it as a gift to some deserving relative.

  5. Thanks, everybody!
It's pretty exciting. The advice here was great. If you want to keep tabs as the book wends its way to publication, I'll post updates on my blog. Word right now calls for a summer '09 publication.
    Cheers!

  9. To anonymous: I did end up shortening the query. I concentrated more on the overall theme of the book and the main character, and glossed over the subplots and secondary characters. I was so close to the story that I couldn't see how much that was bogging down the letter...

  13. congratulations for keeping on and persevering!!! i'd love to read it...and can't wait for it to come out! (though maybe it is inappropriate for my age: i'm 17, the same minion who submitted The Academy query letter for trial and execution) Though as a writer, I'm crestfallen to see that the query was reviewed in 2006, and it's getting released in 2009. This is apparently a tough market.
    anyways, cheers!

  14. This is great news.

And you've done a splendid job of distilling the essence of EE's blue marks...

This is what comes up time and time again in query after query - and clearly what works.

  16. what did happen between 2006 and 2008? Did you query agents, or publishers? What's the story behind the story?

  17. I looked back, and I do remember this query and the story. Congratulations!

  18. Fantastic!! :-) And to think I had the last word in the original post (heh).

I think I originally saw this on Miss Snark - maybe one of her Happy Hooker Query thingies? - and thought it sounded good there.

So when's it coming it out? Sounds fascinating.
