A Day of Sadness

Evil Editor's mom passed away today. I won't feel like being funny for a few days.

Busy work like tabulating the votes in the post just above this one I can handle.

  16. I'm so sorry for your loss.

I can't help but smile, though, at imagining the force of the woman who was able to raise the EE. I send prayers to your family, and raise a glass to the woman, who I imagine, was a heck of a gal.

  23. Thanks for the kind words, everyone. It's helpful at a time like this to know I have so many friends in webland (especially as I'm obviously too evil to have any in real life).

We'll all still be here when you get back to us, but for now go take care of the things you have to, and take care of yourself as well.

  27. There is no other sorrow like the one you feel when you lose your mother. My mother went into the hospital three years ago today, and she died two and a half weeks later. I still think about her every day, and I hope I continue to remember her every day for the rest of my life. I'm sure you feel the same way. I hope you can find comfort in the mercy of the short bout. Prayers for strength and peace for you and your family.

  32. My condolences to you, Evil Editor.

There's never a good time for the death of a parent, no matter how long they live.

May you find comfort in our thoughts and prayers, and your memories and hopes for the future.

  34. We moved in with my husband's aunt a few years ago because she began to need help. I thought she was a very cranky person until we found out she was suffering from a form of dementia in March of '06. For us too, her loss of presence was mercifully short, three months from the time she went into the hospital to the day she died in June.

Remember her alway as the woman who lived to raise a child that loved her to the end of life.

    Hurry back.

  43. Very sorry to log on today to the news, my sincere condolences and sympathy. But, having lost parents, brother, and son, I am of the firm belief that those closest to us are not really gone, just around a corner. I feel them frequently and know you will still connect with your mother. Love doesn't disappear just because we cannot physically hold the person we love. Take care, and take time for yourself.

Isn't it strange how words fail writers at the worst possible times. If I knew you, I would just give you a hug.

  51. I’m always at a loss as to what to say in times like this, but I feel compelled to say something. Nothing that anyone can say will help you find peace with this. We all mean well, but our words are powerless and too small to encompass the heaviness upon your heart. I do hope that with time the pain of her passing fades and you can look back upon your days with her and remember the good times. Even good memories carry a certain type of sadness for all of those memories are just that—memories. Snapshots of life forever stuck in the past. Take care of yourself and take the time you need to grieve and feel what needs to be felt.

I’m very sorry that you’ve suffered a loss.

  53. The loss of a parent is hard. Take care of yourself, EE, and get plenty of rest and down time. My dad died last April and my heart still aches.

  54. I'm so, so sorry. When I lost my mom I coped by focusing on all the wonderful years we had together.

  55. Despite all the writers here, there just aren't adequate words to express sincere sympathies or encompass your loss at a time like this. "Sorry" is the only one that seems to come even close.

    Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.

  63. It's amazing when you consider yourself a writer, yet when the moment comes that you really need to find the right words, they fail you. I've been gone awhile and I finally came back here and saw this. I've stared at the post for several minutes wondering what can be said to a man admired by so many. Everything seems hugely inadequate. I'm so, so sorry.

I agree with anonymous - she must have been an amazing woman to raise such an amazing man. Hold her memory close to your heart and know she continues to go on with you always.

May peace find you soon. Please know you're in my thoughts.
